Hi! I’m Cheryl Meier! I was born and raised in Ohio. I moved to Florida in 1996 to attend Ringling College of Art & Design, where I earned my BFA in Computer Animation in 2000. Since then, I have engaged in a variety of artistic avenues!
After graduation, I started out doing animation for the gaming industry, where I worked on several background characters for the Nintendo video game Metroid Prime in Austin, Texas!
After that, I moved to Atlanta and worked on Pre Production on the film Delgo, A Hero’s Journey. I modeled and textured background props, sets, and characters as well as animations for the production of a teaser/trailer that was to be used to gain funding for the actual production of the film.
Once pre production was complete, I left animation to pursue a career as a filmmaker, specifically going into business for myself, which I have been doing for nearly 18 years now … wow!
Along with my husband, I have owned and operated AWC Films, which focuses mostly on weddings and events with a few commercial and corporate clients thrown in over the years. Our films have been featured in many prominent wedding blogs, such as Style Me Pretty, Borrowed and Blue, and Green Wedding Shoes. We’ve been named Best of Wedding Videographers for The Knot and Wedding Wire multiple years, and have been included in Style Me Pretty’s coveted Little Black Book of Wedding Vendors. Owning and operating my own business has given me the experience of all operations of business from sales to accounting and advertising to production; but the best part about my business is that it gives me the freedom to be home during the week to raise our family, which consists of our daughter and two very energetic Parson Russell Terriers.
In 2018, I participated in The Leadership Development Program with North Point Media and North Point Ministries, one of the largest church organizations in the southeast. Not only was I immersed in a variety of film projects during my 9 month contract, I also participated in monthly leadership development workshops and seminars with the program.
In January of 2021, I decided to dust off my drawing skills, picked up an iPad and Procreate, and participated in Sktchy Art School’s 30 Faces in 30 Days Challenge and am absolutely obsessed with drawing again! I especially love the flexibility and power associated with Procreate -it’s been a game changer for a busy artist like me to reconnect with more traditional style art!
In Fall of 2021, I decided to go full circle and dive back into Computer Animation. I obtained my MA in Art & Design from Kennesaw State University with a concentration in Digital Animation. After graduation, I started teaching 3D modeling and animation courses at Kennesaw State, and am looking forward to guiding the next generation of animators and modelers to their futures in animation careers!
For fun, I enjoy carpentry, and have been fixing up our home since we moved in over 10 years ago. Because the wedding industry suffered an extreme slowdown due to the pandemic, I have started a little business on the side called Woodberry Carpentry, where I work on carpentry related home improvement projects for others.
As you can see, I am always up for doing anything that involves creating with my hands – whether that is traditional drawing, building and assembling something with power tools, creating digital art in 2D or 3D – I just won’t stop experimenting and learning new ways to create … there is always something out there to learn and I’m happiest when I’m immersed in that world! Thanks so much for visiting and I hope you enjoy checking out all of my artistic adventures!
